Working principle

An SBR treats sewage in batches. A single reactor tank is filled with screened sewage, aerated so the biology consumes the organic load, allowed to settle, and then the clear supernatant is decanted — all controlled by timers and level sensors.

Because one tank performs several duties in sequence, the plant needs fewer civil structures and handles flow variation gracefully. Nitrogen and phosphorus removal can be built into the cycle.

Aeration on — biology consumes the organic load.

Settle

Aeration stops; sludge settles by gravity.

STEP 4
Decant & idle

Clear water is decanted; excess sludge wasted.
