Electrochemical treatment that destabilises pollutants using sacrificial metal electrodes — no bulk chemical dosing.
A DC current is passed through aluminium or iron electrodes immersed in the wastewater. The electrodes release coagulant ions in situ, which destabilise suspended solids, emulsified oils and heavy metals.
The destabilised pollutants form flocs that are removed by flotation or settling. The process replaces bulk coagulant chemicals, produces less sludge and handles loads conventional biology finds difficult — colour, oil & grease and metals.
