Working principle

In an MBR plant, sewage is treated biologically in an aeration tank, and the mixed liquor is then filtered through submerged ultrafiltration membranes instead of a conventional settling tank. The membranes physically block suspended solids and bacteria.

Because separation does not depend on gravity settling, the biology can run at a much higher concentration — the plant becomes far more compact and the treated water is clear enough for direct reuse in flushing, gardening and cooling towers.

STEP 1
Screening & equalisation

Raw sewage is screened and balanced in an equalisation tank.

STEP 2
Biological treatment

Aeration tank biology consumes organic load at high MLSS.

STEP 3
Membrane filtration

Submerged UF membranes separate clean permeate from sludge.

STEP 4
Disinfection & reuse

Permeate is disinfected and stored for reuse or discharge.
