Working principle

Flue gas is passed through a reactor where a dry alkaline sorbent — hydrated lime or sodium bicarbonate — is injected. Acid gases such as SO₂ and HCl react with the sorbent and neutralise.

The spent sorbent and dust are captured downstream in a bag filter. Because no water is used, there is no scrubbing effluent to treat — a key advantage where water is scarce.
